Domestic Violence – Victims’ Protection Act 2018
SP21 - Victims' Protection Leave
The Domestic Violence – Victims’ Protection Act 2018 adds legal protections in the workplace for people affected by domestic violence. From 1 April 2019 an employee affected by domestic violence has the right to take 10 days of paid domestic violence leave, this is separate from annual leave, sick leave and bereavement leave. An employee qualifies for and is paid for domestic violence leave in the same way as for sick and bereavement leave. As this leave is highly discretionary and each time this leave is necessary, a considered approach may be required. This leave type is not available to be requested via the Employee Kiosk and can be only entered by Paymaster users in the timesheet entry screen. To protect privacy the payslip will only show the description as Special Leave but the employee's leave balance will display VP - Victims' Protection as a negative balance (same as Bereavement Leave).
