This article covers how to use Authy on your iPhone or iPad.

Note: Authy is one of the only authenticator apps that can by synced and installed on multiple devices, for example, your smartphone and your desktop. However, syncing this device is not for the faint-hearted. It can be quite complex, and you must make sure you securely save any passwords, as there is no way to recover Authy without your passwords. |
First, You Need to Install This App on Your Device
Download the app from the App Store, or select the image below to install the app:
Once the Authy app is installed on your device, you can then set up two-factor authentication (2FA).
Go to:
Scan a QR Code
Important: Time is key. Make sure Set Automatically is On in your Date & Time setting in your iPhone or iPad. Once this has been confirmed, then you can add an account to Authy. |
- On your device, open the Authy app.
- In Authy, select + Add Account.
- Select Scan QR Code.
- With your device, scan the QR code.
Note: If you can't already see the iPayroll Two Factor Authentication page with the QR code, in iPayroll, select your 'Logged in as your username' hyperlink at the top right of the page, next to the Logout, and select the Two Factor Authentication page.
- Select Done.
Authy may prompt you to share that you use 2FA on Twitter or Google+. - Press X to close the prompt.
Authy adds the account to the app. A 6-digit verification code, which is regenrated every 30 seconds, displays. - In iPayroll, on the Two Factor Authentication page, enter the 6-digit verification code in the Verification code field and select Confirm.
Note: You need to select Confirm before the code regenerates.
Now, each time you log into iPayroll, after you have entered your username and password, you will enter the latest 6-digit code from your authenticator app.
Note: Authy shows how many seconds are left before the code expires. If you don't have time to enter and confirm the code, as there are not many seconds left, wait until the code regenerates and use the latest code.
Note: Authy displays multiple 2FA accounts as tabs at the bottom of the app.
Hint: Select the copy icon underneath the token expiry to copy the code.
Manually Enter a Time-Based Key
Important: Time is key. Make sure Set Automatically is On in your Date & Time setting in your iPhone or iPad. Once this has been confirmed, then you can add an account to Authy. |
- On your device, open the Authy app.
- In Authy, select + Add Account.
- Select Enter key manually.
Authy displays the Adding new Account page. - Enter the 16-character time-based key or paste the time-based key from iPayroll and select OK.
Note: The time-based key is under the QR code in iPayroll. In iPayroll, select I can't scan the QR code to display the time-based key.
Note: If you can't already see the iPayroll Two Factor Authentication page, in iPayroll, select your 'Logged in as your username' hyperlink at the top right of the page, next to the Logout, and select the Two Factor Authentication page.
- Select Enter a name for this account and enter your account name (for example, your iPayroll username)
- Select Done.

Remove an Account
- On your device, open the Authy app.
- Select Settings.
- Select Accounts from the bottom of the page.
- Slide your finger left across the account you want to remove.
- Select Delete.
- Select Yes to confirm you want to delete the account.
Authy removes the account 48 hours later.
Note: The account is not deleted for 48 hours, so you can reinstate the account by selecting Undelete.
